Mark T. Sumsion
Co-Owner/ President
Mr. Sumsion has been a founding shareholder, officer and director of Strategis Financial Group, Inc. since 1989. He has been CEO, president or both since 2000. He has been a member of the Strategis Investment Committee since joining the firm.
He holds the following licenses:
- NASD Series 7 (Full Registration General Securities Representative), 3/19/1988
- NASD Series 24 (General Securities Principal), 04/20/2000
- NASD Series 63 (Uniform Securities State Law), 03/29/1988
- NASD Series 65 (Uniform Securities Law), 12/19/1991
- Utah Insurance license
These licenses allow the sale of other approved broker/dealer commission products such as stocks, bonds, exchange traded funds (ETFs), real estate investment trusts (REITS), mutual funds, limited partnerships, variable annuities, and private placement offerings.
Mr. Sumsion also served as one of 20 members of the prestigious Fidelity Executive Advisor Council in the U.S. Formerly a financial consultant investment manager at Shearson Lehman Hutton, Mr. Sumsion also worked for Xerox and was national sales manager for an international small equipment manufacturer. He holds a business management degree from BYUs Marriott School of Management.
Mr. Sumsion has been married to his wife, Jan for 40 years. They have five adult children.

Scott H. Garbutt, CFP®
Co-Owner
Executive VP/ Compliance
Mr. Garbutt has been a co-owner and executive vice president of Strategis Financial Group, Inc. since January 1991. He has been a member of the Strategis Investment Committee since joining the firm. He also served as chief compliance officer from 2001 to 2008.

Mr. Garbutt has been married to his wife, Vicki, for 34 years. They have two adult daughters.

Richard P. Reid, CPA
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Reid Is a Certified Public Accountant with a broad range of
experience in corporate and investment accounting and taxation. Before
joining Strategis he had many years of experience in public accounting
and private industry in Utah and Florida. He has a Master of Accountancy
degree from BYUs Marriott School of Management. He is a member of the BYU
Athletic Hall of Fame.

Rod Jackson
Strategy Consultant
Mr. Jackson has more than 20 years experience creating strategies for
trading financial and currency instruments. Prior to joining Strategis,
Mr. Jackson was a partner in the firm of Bateman, Jackson and Oveson (now
BJO Capital Management). He has a degree in computer science from BYU.

Flint Stephens
Marketing Director/ Financial Advisor
Mr. Stephens is marketing director and a financial advisor for Strategis
Financial Group. During the past 20 years Mr. Stephens wrote and edited
publications for nationally known experts like Howard Ruff, Kenneth Trester,
Dennis Slothower, and others. Mr. Stephens' experience covers everything from
mutual funds, to stock and commodity options, to precious metals, to
international business. He has a master's degree in communications from
Brigham Young University.

Jeff Goettsche
Financial Advisor
Jeff Goettsche has worked in the investment industry for nearly 20 years. Mr.
Goettsche was most recently affiliated with Wachovia Securities where he
operated an independent office. He also spent several years working for
Merrill Lynch. A graduate of Brigham Young University, Mr. Goettsche has a
degree in business finance. In his spare time Jeff enjoys golf and he was a
member of the BYU golf team in his younger years.

Ralph Olsen
Financial Advisor / Strategy Consultant
Dr. Ralph Byron Olsen specializes in seeking individual stocks where selling pressure may temporarily create an overlooked or undervalued condition. He applies proprietary methods (including technical indicators) to buy stocks—especially those that seem unduly depressed. His investment philosophy emphasizes finding potentially profitable market sectors while trying to minimize risk exposure. He earned bachelors’, Master’s and Doctoral degrees at Brigham Young University and maintains his license in Utah as a Marriage and Family Therapist. He is an Investment Advisor Representative and began managing assets for Strategis Financial Group in 2010.

Dr. Richard M. Oveson
Investment Committee Chairman
Before joining Strategis, Dr. Oveson was a senior vice president at the Faneuil Group and a partner at Bateman, Jackson and Oveson (now BJO Capital Management). He has also served as a faculty member at the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University and at the Air Force Academy. He is a retired United States Air Force Colonel. Dr. Oveson holds an MPA and a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
